Description

Udon – Thick Japanese Noodles

Udon (うどん) are noodles made from wheat flour and are characterized by their thickness. Unlike soba noodles, udon are white in color and have a chewier texture. These noodles are popular in restaurants throughout Japan and are used in a variety of hot and cold dishes.

How to Eat Udon

If udon is served with a sauce, take a few strips of noodles and dip them in the sauce before eating.

When served with soup or sauce, hold the noodles with chopsticks and bring them to your mouth, making a smacking sound. This not only enhances the flavor, but also helps cool the hot noodles.

You can drink the broth directly from the bowl without using a spoon. It is also acceptable to leave some of the uneaten soup in the bowl after finishing your meal – this is not considered impolite.
